Welcome

Welcome to 13S Oral History Project!

As you explore the various websites the members of the Latino Roots and Transition S13 class created, you will uncover compelling stories of various different individuals who migrated to the United States in search of a better future.

Within this website you will find the ineffable story of my aunt, Mirtha Hortencia Jáquez Meraz.

Mirtha with her husband, Lino

While growing up, I heard various stories of Mirtha. I was told that she was a very strong, hardworking, and adventurous individual who lived in El Norte. Aside from stories, I did not meet her until I was seven years old, and since then, we have never lost touch.

Though her experiences cannot be justly expressed through words, I will do my very best to describe her memories of Nonoava, Aldama, and Colorado and make her experiences as alive as possible. I am immensely grateful to her for sharing her story with me, and now I will do my best to share her story.
