Congratulations EW House RF Evelyn Zablah!

The Graduate Community Award is designed to recognize outstanding community service undertaken by graduate students on behalf of the entire Dartmouth graduate community. The award is presented annually to the graduate student who best exemplifies a deep commitment to serving the Dartmouth community. Past recipients have been recognized for participation in student governance, service on campus-wide committees, and the development and promotion of programs that enhance the academic and social options of the entire community.

The 2017 recipient is Evelyn Zablah, a student in the Master of Liberal Arts (MALS) program, globalization studies track. Her research is focused on non-profits and her thesis is based on the work done by the renowned organization Doctors Without Boarders. In an effort to promote conscience, social awareness, and the need for humanity to reflect on the importance of world health. “If with this thesis I can just show one person that, underneath it all, we are all only humans; and as someone once told me, our communality is greater than the divisions we create, I would feel fulfilled”.

A graduate of the University of Miami, Evelyn chose Dartmouth for her graduate degree because: I knew that Dartmouth was the right choice for me. Its interdisciplinary focus and comprehensive curriculum has help me become a well-rounded scholar. It has given me not only the right tools to accomplish my dreams, but also the confidence and determination I need to make it happen.

Evelyn has demonstrated deep commitment to the graduate student community and recognizes the potential for positive impact the students can make in the Upper Valley. Serving as Service Chair on the Graduate Student Council, Evelyn’s inspiration and enthusiasm have resulted in a successful monthly Haven Dinner program, Valentines day cards for CHaD and the upcoming GSC-Geisel Graduate Day of Service. She has also served as facilitator of the Yale University Emotional Intelligence pilot program on campus in her role has Resident Fellow in the East House residential community.

Evelyn’s compassion and commitment to others is further evidenced through her work as a coordinator for a non-profit organization, Global Smile Fundation, which works to comprehensive humanitarian services to underserved cleft palate patients living in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

The recipient of the Graduate Community Award should combine personal qualities of dedication to inclusiveness, integrity and enthusiasm with effective service on behalf of the Dartmouth community. Undoubtedly, Evelyn is a worthy recipient. Congratulations!
