henrytempthumb-1Henry Hassan Paige is excited to be the new Graduate Studies Activities Coordinator (GSAC) working out of the Graduate Studies Office in the coming school year. Following his predecessor, Daniel Durcan (MALS ’13), Paige looks forward to providing many of the same fabulous events while adding some other fun, new events for graduate students to enjoy. Paige began working with the Graduate Student Council (GSC) over the past year as a departmental rep. Entering his second year in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program (MALS), he looks forward to getting as involved in the Dartmouth community as he possibly can.

Prior to attending Dartmouth, Paige earned his bachelor’s degree in English from South Carolina State University, then immediately continued school and earned his master’s degree in education. Paige then worked as a middle school teacher in the Boston Public Schools where he taught English and humanities for seven years. After deciding to take time away from teaching to pursue his biggest passion, writing, Paige self-published his first poetry book, Prometheus deMannequin in Looking for Love, and enrolled in Dartmouth shortly thereafter.

“I truly love teaching, but I also love learning and writing. It got to a point where I had to make a decision to follow childhood dreams. I always wanted to write and publish and always wanted to get my PhD. It was great timing, and I’m extremely happy that I came to Dartmouth.”

In addition to his work as Activities Coordinator in the upcoming school year, Paige will also be a co-editor for the MALS Journal and a teaching assistant for the WRIT 2-3 Program. “Being a TA and editor for the Journal are ways that I can continue doing what I love. I get to combine teaching with writing, and nurture what I love to do most.” Paige is a self-described “city boy who loves the wilderness,” and, therefore, will also be working with the Dartmouth Graduate Outing Club (DGOC) during their upcoming hiking and camping trips.

Paige looks at his position as the new Graduate Studies Activities Coordinator as an opportunity to help unite the different graduate school departments. He welcomes any and all ideas that graduate students have for events they would like to see planned. If you have any ideas, please feel free to email him at
