Graduate Students Enjoy Inauguration Dinner
As part of the Inauguration and Convocation celebration on Friday, September 20 welcoming President Philip J. Hanlon as the 18th President of Dartmouth, a few graduate students from the Graduate Student Council (representing Graduate Arts and Sciences), Thayer School of Engineering, and Geisel School of Medicine were invited to attend a special inauguration dinner held at the Hanover Inn that evening. Graduate Student Council representatives who attended included Lisa Jackson (TDI), Spencer Hatch (physics), Andrew Wong (engineering), Adrienne Perkins (biology), Meg Menon (MALS), Haofeng Li (engineering), Henry Paige (MALS), Marie Onakomaiya (PEMM), and Julia Bradley-Cook (EEB).
Graduate students joined prominent and leading members of the Dartmouth academic community at Hanover Inn for a delicious sit-down dinner. President Hanlon was introduced by members of Dartmouth’s Board of Trustees midway through the meal, and gave a very warm and heartfelt speech to those who had come out to celebrate his big day. He thanked the crowd for the support he had received from the community thus far, and also acknowledged his wife, Gail Gentes, for her wonderful encouragement along the way. His words were met with much applause.
It is also not often that leaders from across the graduate schools have an opportunity to socialize and mingle with one another, and all agreed that the dinner was a great opportunity to visit and discuss shared interests and future collaborative opportunities. Altogether, the evening was a truly sophisticated and wonderful affair!
The graduate students in attendance were appreciative of being invited to the special inauguration dinner, and wish President Hanlon the best in his new role!
