This event is a day when we invite kids (primarily ages 12-16) to campus to visit grad students & post-docs in their labs and learn about what real scientists do every day. Volunteers from all different departments put together stations with activities or experiments that are kid friendly and educational.
The success of this event depends on you! This is a great opportunity for students or post-docs to get experience in community outreach and mentoring! You do not need to be associated with GWISE to participate in this event. We'd love to see a wide variety of departments represented to give the kids a taste of all that science has to offer. You can sign up to lead your own station, or collaborate with others in your field of expertise.
If you think you might be interested in volunteering for Science Day, please take a moment to fill out this survey: http://goo.gl/forms/BZzKNhlSKq
For station ideas, alternative, kid-friendly lab space or any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
We will be contacting everyone who replies to the survey with more details soon!
GWISE is hosting an evening discussion to promote dialogue on gender issues in academia and industry. Please join us at Pine where Professor Cormen will discuss his experiences in encouraging women in the field of computer science. We at GWISE would love to have a diverse peer group to facilitate a constructive discussion, so this event is open to all grad students of all departments. Non-female grad students are especially encouraged to RSVP. Space is limited so please consider signing up early! Light snacks will be provided.
Please RSVP to email@example.com.
Wondering what to do with all your free time now that classes are over for the term? Come bake and decorate cookies with GWISE on Sunday, December 14th from 6:00-9:00pm at Tom Dent Cabin.
We'll make some cookies ahead of time for decorating, and mix up some dough to bake throughout the event. We haven't decided exactly what kinds of cookies we’ll be making, but we plan to have a variety. If you have a particular recipe you'd like to make send us a message so we can include it in our planning.
If you plan to come, please RSVP via email OR on our Facebook event page (this is just to estimate our numbers, not a strict requirement).
All are welcome, and you are free to attend all or just part of the event—whatever your schedule allows. We hope to see you there!
Come relax with a drink and appetizers as you meet new GWISE folks or catch up with old ones!
This is a drop-in style event, but we'll be there from 7-9pm. We've also arranged a couple of special drink discounts for those with our group and we'll provide some yummy appetizers for sharing!
This event will be hosted by GWISE (Graduate Women in Science and Engineering)
