2011-2012

Academic

  • Instituted Nerd Nights at Dartmouth – a gathering of people, ideas and nerdiness with beer provided by the GSC’s Homebrewers club
  • Instituted Grad Talks at Dartmouth – a grad student focused “TED” talk symposium

Student Life

Social Events

  • Bi-weekly breakfasts for grad students (organized by the GSAC and North Park coordinator)
  • Monthly Monday Night Tea and desserts (organized by the IGMP)
  • Tailgating series for Dartmouth home games (organized by the GSAC and NP coordinator)

Outreach

  • GSC invited to participate in winter carnival activities like building the sculpture on the Green – a way to increase grad student visibility and involvement in college traditions
  • Increased student involvement and visibility of the Graduate Relief Team
  • Invited representatives from DCAL, Office of Outreach and the Upper Valley Haven to introduce students to outreach opportunities and how to get involved
  • Coordinated food-drives at the large social gatherings to benefit the Haven
  • Approved the Dartmouth Graduate Veteran’s Association for GSC recognition

Administrative

  • Created a new, more user friendly GSC website
  • Increased the scope of block funding for GSC recognized student groups to encourage and facilitate more student involvement in smaller scale events
  • GSC invited to participate in the college wide Strategic Planning efforts

2010-2011

Social Events

  • Best attendance (>450 people) at the Prohibition-themed Winter Semi-formal
  • Increased number of smaller scale events specifically with no alcohol
  • Increased collaboration with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth student council
  • Rewards to designated drivers or “dedicated friends” continued
  • Instituted monthly grad-student pub-nights

Outreach

  • Increased visibility of A&S graduate students – we were mentioned during the Convocation
  • Increased the activities of the Graduate Relief Team
  • First ever invitation to participate in the Homecoming Parade
  • Dartmouth Coop began selling Graduate Studies merchandise and diploma frames

Administrative

  • Launched a new Graduate Studies logo
  • Gazetteer founded – Weekly events newsletter from the GSC
  • Increased communication with the President’s Office, Alumni Council, GSM/TDI/Biomedical Research Council

2009-2010

Academic

  • PhD/MBA program approved
  • GSC sponsored conference grants made available to graduate students

Student Life

  • Discounted movie tickets at the Nugget subsidized by the GSC
  • 1st edition of OGRES (orientation guide for 1st-years) e-published
  • Founded the GSC Partners group; founded the Dartmouth Partners Board (includes partners reps from GSC, Geisel, and Tuck)

Outreach

  • Founded the GSC’s Graduate Relief Team
  • Coordinated a graduate student body response to the tragedy of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake

Administrative

  • Re-instated a graduate student representative on the HOP Student Advisory Committee
  • Passed the Infraction Claus to better regulate funding requests
  • Solidified relationship with the Dartmouth Graduate Senate and helped redefine its purpose
  • Joined the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS) to help push for initiatives on a national level; instated a NAGPS Rep on the GSC
