Another milestone for Japan

Last week Shinzo Abe’s government announced a milestone in Japanese defense policy: the re-interpretation of Article 9 of Japan’s famous “peace constitution.” The change will permit — given parliamentary approval — Japan’s military support of partners who are under attack. In my article in Al Jazeera America, I discuss the significance of this change, and how it fits into Japan’s postwar evolution in security policy.
