Living in China’s Asia

On November 21 I gave a talk to the Henry Jackson Society in London. In this project I explore previous cases of regional hegemony to shed light on what would it be like for the countries of East Asia to live in Chinese-dominated Asia? To understand the goals, strategies, and tools regional hegemons use, I look to several cases:  East Asia under the Chinese tributary system, Japan and its “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere,” the United States in Latin America, and the Soviet Union in the Eastern European “near abroad.”
