The C. Everett Koop Institute led by Director Steven L. Bernstein, MD, is a center committed to advancing health and well-being through research, education, and policy efforts to protect the public health, prevent disease, and promote humanism in the practice of medicine. The Institute seeks to mitigate threats posed by the unhealthy promotion and risky use of consumer products. Our work has historically focused on smoking as a public health issue, education of the public on matters of health promotion, disease prevention, and emerging health threats.
