Other Responsibilities

If you find yourself with no books to shelve when you arrive in Paddock, please complete the following tasks:

  • Ask a staff member if there are any projects you can help with.  If you work in the morning, ask if you can pull interlibrary loan items.
  • Organize the shelves and drawers under the circulation desk.
  • Tidy study spaces by pushing in chairs, discarding trash left behind by patrons, etc.
  • Reload paper in printers/copier.
  • Recycle newspapers more than three days out of date. There should always be one copy of the Dartmouth newspaper, regardless of the date.
  • Check for books that have been left out on tables and record their use in ALMA using Scan in Items with “Register in-house use” checked.
  • Dust/clean circulation desk, reference computer desks, study tables, tops of CD shelves tops of serials shelves, etc.  Cleaning supplies are located under the sink in the back office.
  • Research and curate an exhibit. Ask the music library supervisor for a guidance in coming up with an idea. This is a great way to get paid to add something to your academic resume! You can make it an ongoing project throughout the term or set a goal of finishing it in a week or two.  Past projects have included art exhibits, collections showcases, and special events.
  • Think innovatively!  The staff welcomes your ideas for making Paddock a more user friendly and fun place to study. You know what Dartmouth students want and need from the library so your input is very valuable!  If there is a problem for which you have a solution, let a staff member know.
