Student PubCon: A Student Led Publishing Conference at Dartmouth

Students from across the northeast gathered for the Northeast Student PubCon, hosted at Dartmouth on Saturday April 29th, 2017 from 10 am – 4 pm

Program

We created an environment in which students involved in publishing, or interested in becoming involved in publishing, can learn from each other and from experts.

The conference included activities that helped:

  • Expand readership and impact to other schools in the northeast
  • Develop a robust community of student writers, artists, publishers, and editors
  • Network with guest experts
  • Hone participants’ technical skills through workshops

Talks, workshops and break out sessions included:

  • Why this work matters
  • How publishing and communicating extends the impact of research and scholarship
  • Writer retention and other personnel relationships in publishing
  • Editorial transitions
  • Increasing readership

Participants brought copies of their publications for the print display of publications which was very popular at the conference.

This conference was valuable to students involved in publications, those thinking about working on student-led publications, and those developing their work for publication.

Dartmouth participants and organizers are from the Student-Led Publishing Program at Dartmouth, with support from the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning’s Experiential Learning Initiative and the Society for Scholarly Publishing.
