Liz Studer ~ Ayres lab
My current research focuses on the incipient loss of white ash (Fraxinus americana) due to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis). I am interested in the ecological consequences that its extirpation will have to New England forest food webs, community composition, and ecosystem function.
I study this at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire, where EAB hasn't yet been found but is predicted to establish within the next 1-5 years. I am looking at the forest pre-EAB invasion and trying to understand the ecological function of ash trees in a mixed hardwood forest to predict what changes will or will not occur after it is lost.
