AHEC Scholars Interprofessional Summit: A Forum for Advocacy and Understanding of Patient Populations
When: Saturday, 4/10/21, 9:30AM-1PM

AHEC Scholars from Connecticut, West Virginia and Massachusetts have designed vibrant learning communities and projects focused on the underserved. Learn about the projects and interprofessional learning communities of health professions students focused on expanding their skills and knowledge of vulnerable populations. Students will be sharing posters and demonstrations about their projects and interest groups. See how health professions students have approached working and learning from each other, alumni and community partners to better understand the underserved patients and communities.
Allyship is a Verb that Crosses Boundaries. Becoming an Ally, hosted by Dr. Sunny Nakae
When: Thursday, 4/8/21, 5:30PM-7:00PM
Location: Zoom
Dr. Sunny Nakae, current Senior Associate Dean of Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Partnership at the California University of Science and Medicine. Dr. Nakae is not only a mentor to current and graduated Geisel SOM students, but she is a fierce advocate for underrepresented groups and a leader in the DEI space. The 90-minute workshop will aim to achieve the following objectives:
· Discuss allyship and what being an ally means
· Increase awareness of how identity shapes lived experiences
· Recognize the importance of allies in combatting and correcting injustice and mistreatment
· Learn ally skills
· Commit to continued development and implementation/action of ally skills
