National AHEC

What is AHEC?

In 1971 Congress developed the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) program to recruit and train a health professions workforce committed to underserved populations. Today AHECs nationwide help bring the resources of academic medicine and other health professions to address local community health needs. Through the AHEC network, national initiatives can be designed tohelp address local and regional healthcare issues.
