Our work is responsible for the key finding that black patients’ higher use of intensive care at the end of life is largely attributable to their use of higher-intensity hospitals. The Rise lab focuses on the interplay between organizational norms, provider-patient communication, and implicit cognition, and how these phenomena produce racial disparities in end-of-life treatment.
