Call For Artists & Registration

Environmental art has long served the sciences and humanity. Lately, most artists have been asked to visualize the climate crisis, illustrate the catastrophe, and showcase the problems and challenges. The facts and data, on the one hand, and the fiction and storytelling, on the other, leave us uncertain about a dystopic reality and uncertain as to how to affect change.

What if we ask the youngest brightest minds to think, create, and challenge themselves with new ideas for sustainability, ideas that are not driven by how bad things are but instead by how we can do better?

We imagine this artistic biennale as a display of new visions for sustainability, a collection of new ideas on how we can imagine all together the post-natural environments that can sustain themselves and sustain us. Examples of artworks would range (but are not limited) from bio-inspired materials and textures, flexible surfaces, open-ended structures, or hybrid skins, breathing huts, natural roofs, but also cyborg gardens, porous walls, expansive enclosures, as well as innovative playscapes, places of constant care, spaces for the community to grow.

The former golf course property, open to the community and visitors, is the ideal place for our biennial open-air exhibition. The open hilly valley, surrounded by the northern woods, becomes an artistic destination for experimentation and experience.

The exhibition will be temporary towards the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer. The collection of artistic and innovative ideas will be celebrated at the end of the academic year to symbolize learning, collaboration, and cross-pollination among the brightest young minds, who will join forces to think and make art ideas for sustainable living that nurture the caring public at Dartmouth.

Call for Submittals

Dartmouth College is excited to announce the Climate Sculpture Biennale - 2024, inviting artists to submit proposals for up to 24 outdoor sculptures to be showcased on the former golf course property. The exhibition aims to encourage dialogue about the environment and climate change, providing a unique platform for artistic expression and eco-conscious dialogue.

The chosen artworks will be featured in a catalog, providing artists with a lasting record of their participation in this impactful exhibition. In addition, selected artists will receive a $200 honorarium to defray exhibition expenses. We welcome submissions from student artists across New England who are eager to contribute to this vital conversation on climate and sustainability.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a meaningful artistic dialogue on environmental issues! Submit your proposals by May 6, 2024, and join us in fostering awareness and change through the power of art.
