Club Swim Update (July 10, 2020)

It is a crazy time to be a swimmer at Dartmouth!

Since campus was first closed in March, Club Swim has been out of the pool, and hosting bi-weekly Zooms for our members to stay connected. In late June, Dartmouth announced its plans for the next academic year, and we are still determining what this means for Club Swim next year, and are figuring out how we’re going to train, grow our team, and have a fun year while being safe.

More recently, we found out about Dartmouth’s plans to close its Varsity Swim and Dive program. Our hearts go out to all the Varsity swimmers reacting to the news. We are still figuring out what this means for our organization, but, as always, all are welcome at Club Swim.

Blog Post #7: It’s Always Sunny in Phoenix

Hello loyal followers of Dartmouth Club Swim! I’m Libby, I’m a ’20, and new to leadership. For some reason, it seems like everyone is off this term. Why, you might ask. Well, Hanover winters are known to be a little chilly at times, like your hair freezes after practice kind of chilly, so many of us take the opportunity to get out of town, go on a foreign study program, do an internship or research. And though we may not feel like we’re missing out on the blizzards for dayz, the FOMO on Club Swim is

Winnie, my brother’s dog!!

real.  Continue reading

On Coming Home

After two months in London, I finally went swimming at the London Aquatics Centre just a five-minute walk from my dorm. Walking into the 2012 Olympic pool was incredibly…familiar. Continue reading

Blog Post #1!!!

Helloooo team, alumni, parents! We are starting our first ever blog post series, to continue sharing a more personal side of the team and leadership through a snippet of our regular/every day lives! Our first blog post is from Max Orman-Kollmar, who is off this term but is rearing to come back for Winter Carnival (?) and spring term!!

On a winter day long since passed, I heard many of my friends parrot the same complaint: “7 am drill is soooo baaaad!” Well, guess what, boys and girls: I can do you one better!

Being off both winterim and winter term has left me with plenty of time to fill. I have since done so by laying pipe- no, you degenerates, thats not an innuendo. I am currently working for a plumbing company and am on various sites installing water lines, learning how to use various power tools and just overall working on becoming the world’s premiere Mario cosplayer. Since I’ve gotta be on the site in downtown Manhattan (or Queens for my first site), I have to be up around 4:30 in the morning. The cold air, compounded with wind chill, made the Queens site unbearable as it had NO WINDOWS. Imagine handling cold metal rods and trying to tighten tiny screws, all while hoping that you’re fingers are just stiff and not legit frozen solid. Continue reading
