DAC Coding Trends

Each year, the DAC generates and publishes several annual reports called, "Coding Trends", which are derived from the Medicare MedPar, Outpatient, and Carrier (Part B) files.  Each report contains a count of beneficiaries and events for each code type, including ICD-9/ICD-10 diagnosis codes, ICD-9/ICD-10 procedure codes, HCPCS codes, revenue center codes, DRGs, and MSDRGs.  Per CMS DUA requirements, we suppress the data where the count of events or beneficiaries are <11.

The Dartmouth Atlas publishes these codes as part of its scope of work to promote transparency in public reporting for how it ensures data quality and security in the development of Dartmouth utilization and spending rates.
