Compost Tea

Project based out of Quito, Ecuador.

Dates Active: March 2018 – present

About: The Compost Tea project originates after a Dartmouth ‘18 wrote a report on aerated compost tea for an ENVS course. Since 2018, the Compost Tea DHE Project has been working on a low-cost composting prototype that serves to combat soil nutrient deficiency. Originally designed to help urban farmers in Quito, Ecuador, the device has been re-envisioned to help farmers across the world sustainably integrate key nutrients into the soil.

Status update from team lead: When I took over the project this spring (20S), I was hoping to really put our prototype to the test despite the COVID limitations. We were forced to cancel our trip to Ecuador, but I still felt it was important to put the prototype in a real world environment and gather data. Hopefully, we will also be able to send a travel trip soon.
