FAQs

How do I join?

Just come to our rehearsals! Our rehearsals are generally open to everyone, and we will announce the first rehearsal at the beginning of fall term to all of campus. You can also meet us at Dimensions, the HOP fair during orientation, and the student activities fair at the beginning of fall term. Finally, you can email dcmb@dartmouth.edu and we'll be sure to add you to our email list in the fall!

Who can play in the DCMB?

The DCMB is open to all Dartmouth students and we have players with all levels of experience. We have members who never played an instrument before, members who are extremely talented, and all levels in between!

Do I need to own an instrument?

No, DCMB members can rent instruments for free!

Do I need musical or marching experience?

No, the DCMB is accepting of all levels of experience, and our members are happy to help you get up to speed!

What is the time commitment?

In the fall, we usually have rehearsals on Mondays from 7:30pm-9:00pm and Friday evening for about an hour and a half. We play at every home football game and usually one away game. Games are typically Saturday afternoons although they are sometimes Friday nights. In the winter, we usually have rehearsals on Mondays from 7:30pm-9:00pm and a game on either Friday or Saturday every week. We don't play much in the spring, however we often have fun social activities like our annual cabin trip and formal. While we hope members attend as many rehearsals and games as they can, we are relatively relaxed and understand people are busy and conflicts arise.

Can I talk to someone in the band?

Of course! Just email dcmb@dartmouth.edu, and we can answer you directly or connect you with a band member that has similar experiences!

Are there auditions or cut-offs for performances?

There are no auditions! We only ask if you are performing on the field that you come to our Monday and Friday rehearsals. Members can still play in the stands if they miss rehearsal though!

What is the financial commitment?

The DCMB has no dues and instruments can be rented for free. Travel expenses to our away game are typically covered. The only expenses people face usually is for food at optional social events. Typically some form of food is provided during games.
