Dr. Jason S. McLellan, PhD, Professor of Molecular Biosciences and Robert A Welch Chair in Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin, is an internationally recognized leader in structural virology and the development of structure-based interventions for viral pathogens. His research has led to the development of the first FDA-approved vaccine for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and the stabilizing substitutions his laboratory designed for coronavirus spike proteins are found in all COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the U.S. His laboratory has expertise in the determination of viral protein structures and extensive experience in structure-based design and biophysical characterization of protein interactions. Dr. McLellan and his team work collaboratively with domestic and international investigators in academia, government, and industry.
