The application is a two-part process that includes the application to the Dartmouth Healthcare Foundations Society For Medical Humanities and the application to the fellowship, for which membership in the DHF Society is a stipulation. If you are already a Society member, you do not need to reapply.
Step 1: DHF Society for Medical Humanities application requirements:

- one professional reference

Step 2: Complete your Eichler '57 Senior Fellowship Application
Application Requirements
- You must be in good academic standing with Dartmouth College
- As a senior-only fellowship, you must be on campus for fall, winter, and spring terms 2024-25
- 1 - Professional reference
- 3 - Short-answer responses
- 3 - Essay Questions (maximum 500 words each)
- 1 - Interview
Fellowship Commitments
Participating in the Eichler ’57 Fellowship is the equivalent of committing to an additional class throughout the school year. We encourage each applicant to consider their own capacity in committing to the fellowship for this coming academic year.
Fellowship Programming
By submitting your application to the Eric Eichler ’57 Fellowship for Healthcare Leaders, you confirm your intention and capacity to participate in programming scheduled over the course of the academic year, which will include:
- didactic sessions led by Prof. Carpenter-Song and Dr. Mishra
- facilitated discussions of selected readings
- engagement with speakers, including faculty, clinicians, and community leaders
- training in community engagement methods
- writing workshops to build new skills for personal reflection and connections to healthcare
- participating in a year-long service project (see below)
- presenting work-in-progress updates throughout the year
- presenting a final fellowship project
- contributing to the planning of fellowship events
- sharing information about fellowship experiences to the broader Dartmouth and healthcare learning community
- participating in student leadership roles
To cultivate strong connections through this fellowship, we expect you to be present and actively engaged throughout the academic year. As an Eichler Fellow, you commit to several required activities and the approximate equivalent of one additional class per term.
Fellowship Service Project
- Each Fellow will be paired with a community partner
- Fellows will meet with their community partner at least once per month during the course of the academic year
- Fellows will be trained in community engagement methods
- Modalities of these meetings will vary based on the transportation needs of the student and the community partner
