Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Emergent Imaginaries of Regenerative Agriculture project at Dartmouth seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow for a one year remote position, starting on or before August 1, 2024. The position is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Science and Technology Studies program (grant #2121246). The postdoc will be responsible for conducting and writing up research on the imaginary of regenerative agriculture as a source of ‘nutrient dense” food. The idea that healthier soils produce healthier food holds great appeal for a range of actors, including regenerative brands and investors, but is not yet well-supported by peer-reviewed research. Thus we seek a postdoc to help us investigate how different actors are promoting and debating this imaginary, primarily in the United States.

Position requirements:

  • PhD in a humanistic social science, such as geography, anthropology, or science and technology studies (STS).
  • Experience with qualitative research methods (such as interviewing, participant observation, discourse analysis).
  • Familiarity with the scholarly literatures in STS as well as agrarian studies/agri-food studies and/or political ecology.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.

The position is remote.  However because the study is focused on the U.S. and the position will likely involve occasional fieldwork travel, the postdoc should ideally also be based in the United States. The position will also involve regular (usually weekly) lab meetings with the PI and the project’s other postdoctoral fellow.

The salary is commensurate with experience and includes benefits.
