Carmen del Genio, B.S.

Carmen is a New Hampshire native and graduated Colby-Sawyer college with a degree in Biology. Carmen worked as an undergraduate research technician in the Fiering group, and then was the original “Gaur Core” member where he helped to build the lab from the ground up. Carmen is an ‘automotive enthusiast’ and spends time outside of lab building and racing cars.


PhD Students

Alicia Barber, M.Phil.

Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth (IND)

Alicia is a 4th-year neuroscience Ph.D. candidate focused on uncovering sex differences in transcriptional and epigenetic contributions to Alzheimer’s disease progression. Alicia earned a Master of Philosophy in Translational Biomedical Research from the University of Cambridge in 2018, where she was rigorously trained in clinical trial design, drug development, and rare disease studies. Alicia is a staunch advocate for the dementia community at large and has been featured on various news outlets promoting policy reform and sharing her personal experience with the disease. She has also served as a contributing writer for Being Patient – a dementia-focused, health and science news site – and is a Community Educator for the Alzheimer’s Association. Alicia has spoken at a number of universities about her journey as a young woman in STEM, and mentors high school students through independent neuroscience research projects. Outside of the lab, Alicia enjoys listening to audiobooks and pop culture podcasts, skiing, and traveling. 


Medical Students

Yujia (Yoga) Shentu, M.S

Geisel School of Medicine ’23

Yoga graduated from a combined B.S./M.S. program in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2017. During her time at WashU, she was involved in pediatric psychiatry research as well as ultrasound research. Before joining Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College as a medical student, she spent two years working as a clinical research coordinator at Child and Adolescent Mood Program at Emory University. Yoga is an avid baker and enjoys making bread and pastries.

Dominique Fontaine, B.A. 

Geisel School of Medicine ’24

Dominique graduated from Dartmouth College in 2016 with a B.A. in Neuroscience, during which time she was involved in labs researching neuromarketing and NMDA receptor targets in cancer. In 2015, she studied in Germany at the Freie Universität Berlin, learning the German language, culture, and history. Later that year, she joined the Sohal Lab at UCSF Sandler Neurosciences Center and helped run schizophrenia and anxiety studies. In 2018, Dominique completed Columbia University’s post baccalaureate program with Dean’s List recognition and went on to become a clinical research core associate in the Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology Department at YNHH through Yale School of Medicine. She also served as a panelist in Columbia GS’ “Road to Medical School.” Dominique is now a medical student at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, where she serves as president of the Geisel Chapter of the Global Surgery Student Alliance and co-president of the General Surgery Interest Group. She has joined the COVID and Flu Vaccine Clinic as a volunteer vaccinator and was chosen to be a Translational Oncology Program Scholar at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at DHMC.

Mirelle Mah’Moud 

Dartmouth College ’25

Mirelle is an undergradute studying Neuroscience in the Pre-Med track. During her freshman year, Mirelle studied the effects of experience and reward predictability on rat behavior in a maze at the Dartmouth Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Prior to that, she participated in an ongoing study that examined the mechanism of lymphatic drainage in esophageal cancer in mice in the Biomedical and Technology Lab at North Carolina Central University. Mirelle is passionate about the fight to eliminate healthcare disparities in the US and currently serves as Dartmouth Global Health Fellow. In addition, she is a certified Community Health Ambassador for the Duke Cancer institute. In her free time, she likes to skateboard and play cello and lacrosse.
