Fall 2014 Executive Board

Co-Presidents

 Internal Co-President: Katelyn Wong

Katelyn Wong

I am a ’15 from Connecticut majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in  Spanish. I joined GlobeMed because I was really drawn to our partnership model and our emphasis on a strong community. After serving as the Director of External Communications this past year and getting to know all of the staff and Eboard members, I’m extremely excited to serve as Internal Co-President. I am grateful for the strong community and cohesiveness of our chapter and our close ties with our partner KWAT. Outside of GlobeMed, I am involved in neurobiology research at DHMC and Sigma Delta sorority. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, swimming, and spending time with my friends and family.

I am a senior at Dartmouth College and am pre-med, majoring in Neuroscience, and minoring in Public Policy.  I became involved in GlobeMed because of my passion for global health and for GlobeMed’s unique dedication to raising awareness in addition to fundraising.  I believe that there are many issues we face today that transcend national boundaries or cultural borders, such as human rights and reproductive health issues, and am thus committed to GlobeMed’s mission to tackle such issues through cooperation and  relationship building.  On campus, I am also a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, I dance with Vandana, a South Asian dance group, and do research through the Education Department.

Hi! I’m Sam and I am a member of the Class of 2015, double-majoring in Government and Spanish. I’ve been involved with GlobeMed since fall of my freshman year because I value our organization’s emphasis on a partnership model and member education in pursuit of global health equity. I’m excited to be part of GlobeMed because I think we really do make a positive change in the world! In addition to my involvement in GlobeMed, I’m research assistant for the Government Department, a member of the Latin American Political Society, and a sister of Kappa Delta.

I am a ’17 from Jacksonville, Florida, studying international development, economic geography and pre-med. I am a part of GlobeMed because of its structure of education and partnership. Learning from the many global health presentations, speakers and activities last year, I felt convicted to serve in the role of ghU Coordinator. I am excited to be able bring an interdisciplinary study of global health to our meetings this year. Apart from GlobeMed, I am involved with an on campus Christian fellowship, Agape, neuroscience research, and community service (SAT tutoring in the local community). I like to read and travel and I enjoy doing it with family and friends.

I’m Heather! I am a ’15 majoring in government and also studying geography and Arabic. I am a starting member of the Dartmouth College Fencing Club team and have been fencing since I was in high school. I also write and edit for the news section of The Dartmouth, Dartmouth’s student newspaper, in addition to acting as Philanthropy Chair of Alpha Phi Sorority. I joined GlobeMed my freshman year because I was attracted to the grassroots, hands on approach our organization takes to global health. I also love the work we do with KWAT and am excited to see our partnership grow and our success continue in the coming years. I am continuously inspired by the network of young college students striving to make a difference!

Delia O'Shea

My name is Delia and I’m a junior at Dartmouth College, here in my home state of New Hampshire! I’m majoring in Neuroscience and I’m on the pre-med track, which I love because it provides a great opportunity for a melding of basic science research and clinical applications. I’m also minoring in Hispanic Studies, and I can’t wait to study abroad in Madrid in the fall! I became involved with GlobeMed because it’s a great platform for getting involved with and fostering a passion for global health, and for implementing real and lasting change with a long-term partner. I’m also involved in piloting Dartmouth’s First Year Peer Mentoring program, as well as psychiatry research at DHMC and medical engineering and computer science research at Thayer. I love singing, dancing, cooking, and listening to music. I’m so excited to be working with GlobeMed this summer!

Hi, I’m Kristina! I’m a 16 from New York City I’ve always been interested in health and the sciences. So I plan to be pre-med here at Dartmouth. I joined GlobeMed because it gave me the opportunity to interact with others who share my passion for global health and my goal of reaching out to help others. Over the next three years, I hope to remain apart of GlobeMed’s inspiring movement to actually make a difference in the world of global health.

Karen Jacques

Hey. I’m Karen! I am a ’17 from Maine and am planning on being pre-med and majoring in psychology. I joined GlobeMed my freshman year because I liked the idea of building a lasting relationship with our partner, as well as the fact that every meeting allows for further learning about global health. I am looking forward to another great year with GlobeMed, and the opportunity to help make the relationships and friendships within our chapter even stronger. Outside of GlobeMed, I am a member of the club field hockey team, a member of Tri Delta sorority, and do research at the Thayer School of Engineering.

I am a ’15 from Houston, Texas and am majoring in biology. I joined GlobeMed my freshman year because of the amazing partnership with KWAT, and have been dedicated ever since to its mission of consistent, effective global health. I’ve watched our chapter grow in the past two years, and I cannot wait to see what we can accomplish next. On campus, I’m a member of Alpha Phi sorority, volunteer at The Haven, a local shelter, and participate in research at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

External Communications Director: Zonia Moore

Zonia Moore

Hi! I’m Zonia. I’m a ’16 from the Caribbean, but I’ve lived in Pittsburgh most of my life. I joined GlobeMed my sophomore year actually because I have a very international background, and the differences in the healthcare systems between the countries that I hail from are very interesting. It also didn’t help that all of my friends were a part of the group during my Freshman year. Unfortunately, they all quit by the time that I joined, but I sticked with GlobeMed because of the cause and the community. We don’t just convene weekly to talk about how to raise money, we are an actual group of friends who all care about the same cause and want to learn and do something about it.

Hi! I’m a ’16 (junior) from Seoul, South Korea, majoring in neuroscience. Since high school, I’ve been interested in ways to achieve affordable healthcare in all countries because I realized that adopting a simple practice, such as washing hands and vaccinating infants, can save millions of human lives; this belief also resonates with GlobeMed’s ideals. During the GROW trip past summer, I’ve got a lot of first-hand experiences in global health and had a chance to meet these brave individuals fighting for basic human rights and equitable healthcare. Other than GlobeMed, I’m currently doing research with Neurobiology Department in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and I’m  also working as a peer mentor under FYPM.

I am a member of the class of 2015, majoring in biology with a minor in anthropology. I joined GlobeMed during my freshman year because I didn’t really know anything about international health or development and I wanted to get involved. Outside of GlobeMed, I do research with the anesthesia department at the hospital and work at the elementary school after-school program. In my free time, I like reading, ice skating on the pond, and reading food blogs.
