Co- Presidents

Adam Kraus: I’m a member of the Class of 2014 planning on double majoring in Biology and Anthropology modified with Global Health. I became involved in GlobeMed because I am very passionate about global health. GlobeMed is an organization that has a clear mission and works to help international organizations in a tangible way. It creates lasting partnerships with international organizations and expands our concept of culture and world health. I am also involved in volunteering for Hospice and the Dartmouth Global Leadership Program. I am doing research for the Dartmouth Institute on cardiovascular specialties and care. I love to play guitar, listen to music, hang out, and bike. I’m so excited to raise money for such a valuable organization and have to chance to meet amazing people through GlobeMed!

Nina Boal: I’m a 14 pre-med majoring in Geography with a concentration in International Development and minoring in Biology.  I originally joined GlobeMed because of my interest in global health and it has allowed me to give back and connect directly with our grassroots organization KWAT.  I feel like I know exactly what my efforts are going towards- allowing us to focus our efforts and be more effective.  On campus I am a member of Alpha Phi, I am a drug and alcohol peer advisor, a member of green team, and I do research at DHMC.

Aditi Misra: I am a ’14 planning on majoring in Biomedical Engineering.  I was initially attracted to GlobalMed because of its unique style of engaging its members in direct service.  It has been a great experience and I look forward to seeing our chapter grow.  Besides being part of an awesome E-board, I’m a member of the Dartmouth College fencing team.  When I am alone, I enjoy reading books in front of a fire with hot chocolate.

Melissa An: I’m a senior at Dartmouth College from St. Louis, Missouri. I’m doing a major in Neuroscience and a minor in the Anthropology of Global Health, and I’m planning to attend medical school after graduation. Other activities I am involved in on campus include China Care, a group that provides medical care for orphaned children in China, psychiatry research at the Dartmouth Medical School, and working with autistic children within the community. I’m also into music, tennis, traveling, and photography.

Campaign Coordinators

Ellen Pittman: I’m a ’14 from Cincinnati, Ohio, majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish. I’m so excited for the year ahead with GlobeMed! We have a great group of people on E-Board and Staff, and I can’t wait to work with everyone this year. I love GlobeMed’s partnership model, and it is inspiring to know that what we do with Campaigns has a direct and measurable impact at KWAT. Outside of GlobeMed, I do research in the Biology department, I direct the Dartmouth Cancer Scholars program at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, and I am a member of the Dartmouth Subtleties, an all female a cappella group on campus.

Harrison Han: I’m a ’16 from Thousand Oaks, CA currently planning on double majoring in Biology and Economics. I was drawn in particular by GlobeMed’s dedicated info session that genuinely showed the entire staff’s commitment to creating change overseas. My first year in GlobeMed has only reinforced my first impression. I am looking forward to seeing our efforts make a difference first hand! In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and piano, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Directors of Community Building:

Ayesha Dholakia I am a junior at Dartmouth College and am pre-med, majoring in Neuroscience, and minoring in Public Policy.  I became involved in GlobeMed because of my passion for global health and for GlobeMed’s unique dedication to raising awareness in addition to fundraising.  I believe that there are many issues we face today that transcend national boundaries or cultural borders, such as human rights and reproductive health issues, and am thus committed to GlobeMed’s mission to tackle such issues through cooperation and  relationship building.  On campus, I am also a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, I dance with Vandana, a South Asian dance group, and do research through the Education Department.

Kristina Mani: Hi, I’m Kristina! I’m a 16 from New York City I’ve always been interested in health and the sciences. So I plan to be pre-med here at Dartmouth. I joined GlobeMed because it gave me the opportunity to interact with others who share my passion for global health and my goal of reaching out to help others. Over the next three years, I hope to remain apart of GlobeMed’s inspiring movement to actually make a difference in the world of global health.

Directors of Communication:

Katelyn Wong   I am a ’15 from Connecticut planning on majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in  Spanish. After serving as the Campaigns Coordinator this past year and getting to know all of the staff and Eboard members, I’m extremely excited to serve as the external director of communication. I am grateful for the strong community and cohesiveness of our chapter and our close ties with our partner KWAT. Outside of GlobeMed, I am involved in neurobiology research at DHMC and Sigma Delta sorority. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, swimming, and spending time with my friends and family.

Heather Szilagyi    I am a ’15 majoring in government and also studying geography and Arabic. I am a starting member of the Dartmouth College Fencing Club team and have been fencing since I was in high school. I also write and edit for the news section of The Dartmouth, Dartmouth’s student newspaper, in addition to acting as Philanthropy Chair of Alpha Phi Sorority. I joined GlobeMed my freshman year because I was attracted to the grassroots, hands on approach our organization takes to global health. I also love the work we do with KWAT and am excited to see our partnership grow and our success continue in the coming years. I am continuously inspired by the network of young college students striving to make a difference!

Historian:

Shaital Vellanki: My name is Shaital (Shay) Vellanki, and I am currently a sophomore at Dartmouth. My hobbies include traveling, painting and dancing. I am part of Ujima (the hip-hop dance club on campus). I also am interested in the sciences, particularly in Neuroscience, and I hope to major in that area later on in the future. My favorite foods are spaghetti, pineapple, and the chocolate-chip cookies at Foco. I became a member of GlobeMed during the beginning of freshman fall. It was one of the extracurriculars I stuck with because I really liked the club dynamic as well as what it was set out to do for its international partner. I wanted to continue to contribute my time and commitment to this club and so I applied for the position of Historian. I love to document events as it helps for clubs to look back at what they have accomplished and cherish memories. By posting our pictures on Facebook and the blog, we can also publicize events and let our students as well as the greater Hanover community know what exactly GlobeMed does on campus. After all, they say “a picture is worth a thousand words!”

Director of Individual Giving:

Julie Ivy:  I’m a ’15 pre-med at Dartmouth College, majoring in biology and minoring in international studies. GlobeMed has proved to be an incredible, rewarding way to pursue my interest in global health. We’re forming a close, sustainable relationship with our partner, KWAT, and for that reason, I think we can really make a positive impact on the lives of the Kachin refugees. I’m so excited to be a Campaigns Coordinator for the summer, and I hope we can welcome some new members this term! In addition to GlobeMed, I’m on the foil squad of Dartmouth’s fencing team, and I do research at DHMC. In my free time, I love baking, reading, and spending time with my friends and family.

GROW Trip Coordinator:

Lisa Carson: I am a member of the class of 2015, majoring in biology with a minor in anthropology. I joined GlobeMed during my freshman year because I didn’t really know anything about international health or development and I wanted to get involved. Outside of GlobeMed, I do research with the anesthesia department at the hospital and work at the elementary school after-school program. In my free time, I like reading, ice skating on the pond, and reading food blogs.
