Submissions

Thank you for showing an interest in the Dartmouth Undergraduate Historical Review. We accept historical scholarship from undergraduates across the country. We plan to publish one edition every academic year in June.

OUR SUBMISSION CYCLE FOR OUR JUNE ISSUE IS OPEN UNTIL FRIDAY MAY 3RD, 2024 AT 11:59 PM EST.

CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSIONS

Submissions have a combination of primary and secondary sources. We strongly encourage original papers. Secondary sources must be peer-reviewed. Arguments must be original thoughts. We encourage writers to have a clear and debatable thesis. Submissions must have a word count of 3,000 - 5,000, excluding references and be submitted  Our style is Chicago 17th edition. We accept shortened citations if they were previously cited once before. We encourage a diverse amount of regions in our history, beyond Western Europe and North America. We would like to see works in other areas such as the Middle East and South Asia. We also accept submissions that touch on topics outside of history such as economics, urban studies, and the classics, but your thesis should be rooted in history.

If your writing is selected for and published in our issue, you are giving us publishing rights to your work. You may not re-send the article to any other publications on campus.
