Submissions

Thank you for your interest in the Dartmouth Undergraduate Historical Review. We accept historical scholarship from undergraduates across the country.

WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR SPRING 2025 EDITION!

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 14TH @ MIDNIGHT EST

CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSIONS

Submissions have a combination of primary and secondary sources. We strongly encourage original papers. Secondary sources must be peer-reviewed. Arguments must be original thoughts. We encourage writers to have a clear and debatable thesis. Submissions must have a word count of 2,500 - 5,000, excluding references. Our style is Chicago 17th edition. We accept shortened citations if they were previously cited once before. We encourage a diverse amount of regions in our history, beyond Western Europe and North America. We would like to see works in other areas such as the Middle East and South Asia. We also accept submissions that touch on topics outside of history such as economics, urban studies, and the classics, but your thesis should be rooted in history. You must be a current undergraduate at an accredited university.

Please add a page to the front of your submission containing abstract (around 200 words) and your paper's title.

Since our editorial board engages in a double-blind review process, we ask that remove your name and any other identifying information (school year, college, professor or class name) from your paper. Submissions that do not follow this format will automatically be rejected.

If your writing is selected for and published in our issue, you are giving us publishing rights to your work. You may not re-send the article to any other publications on campus.
