Dartmouth’s Leslie Center for the Humanities celebrates its 25th anniversary year with a special institute titled HUMANITIES WORK. We will convene students, faculty, and public scholars to think together about how the humanities create knowledge and improve the human experience. The institute will produce deeper understanding of the power of the humanities, broader awareness of public and professional opportunities, and a stronger community-based motivation to further humanities work at Dartmouth.
“Humanities Work” encompasses the concepts, practices, and social impacts that define the humanities, via three week-long sessions: Methods (April 7–11), Impacts (April 21–25), and Careers (May 12–15). Each part features one week of concentrated events: public talks, film showings, or panel discussions, and one private seminar in which institute fellows discuss the public events alongside selected readings.
We will award up to 12 faculty fellowships to Dartmouth professors and postdocs who will participate in all three weeks of the Institute. We will award up to 12 student fellowships to Dartmouth undergraduates and graduate students per week of the Institute. Students may apply to participate in all three weeks, or for each week individually. All fellows participate in the seminar meetings and attend the public events. Apply by Feb. 12.
