Tiffany: It took me a while to overcome the idea that I am not a fast runner. But I came to realize that it doesn’t matter how fast I am. I am a runner no matter what. There are some very fast runners in the Upper Valley Running Club, and I am just as much of a runner as any one of them. I ran the virtual Boston Marathon last year all by myself on the Rail Trail. I had the help of my husband, son, and mom throughout the entire 26.2 miles. My mom would drive Rick and Gunner so that one of them would always be running alongside me for the race.

Rick: Some days you have good races and some days you have bad races. I always tell both my kids and runners I coach that you need to go out and do the best that you can. It’s very important to me that they have fun when they run. If the kids are winning, but it’s all serious and they’re not having fun, what’s the point of being out there?”

Gunner: My motivation for running is to make college as cheap as possible. I ran my first half marathon when I was eight years old. I remember running all these races when I was younger and being half the size of some of the people I was running against. I am really proud of my state records that I hold. So far, I set 8 state records. I am going to try to set a few more this year and next year.

Isabella: I have this bad habit in my events of always thinking about the other racers. I think about how well they are going to jump. I would just think about whether that girl is going to jump 29 feet or this other girl is going to jump 27 feet. I never focus on myself or what I want to do. I work really hard and I am really proud of myself for qualifying for the national championship for the triple jump.”
