Moving Beyond Feathers: Unclicking the Pause Button on Native and Indigenous Identity
Indigenous people possess many cultures, views, and experiences not shared or known outside of their community due to media representation and historical bias and perspective on native culture(s) as we enter into a new chapter of growth and becoming more comfortable with having honest, educational, and prospective conversations of our shared history. We invite and recognize that reflecting on our past invokes thought and growth, and we invite you to participate.
We believe communities are stronger when they are diverse, inclusive, and equitable. Inclusion and diversity encompass a broad range of topics -- race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, ability, and more. This year's summit focuses on the history and contributions of native culture.
Dartmouth's Inclusive Excellence initiative encourages all of us -- from departments across the institution -- to help foster a culture of inclusion at Dartmouth. Becoming more enlightened on current social issues that affect our friends, students, coworkers, and community is critical to help us to connect better and understand one another. To develop practices, programs, policies, and partnerships that best meet our institution's and community needs. Each member has a role to play in creating a culture of inclusion at Dartmouth -- whether we are creating new programs, writing code for a new website update, or greeting people as they enter our offices.
