Local Man Lucky He’s Too Broke To Support Live Action Mulan’s Islamophobia

Human rights activists are praising local unemployed college graduate Terry Chao for boycotting Disney’s new live-action Mulan. Chao’s refusal to condone the film’s close collaboration with the Turpan Public Security Bureau, the Xinjiang government agency responsible for the mass detainment of Muslim Uyghurs, as well as filming in the region where the Concentration Camps are located, was lauded as a brave moral stance. However, exclusive reporting has revealed that Chao just could not afford the $29.99 Disney+ Premier Access.

“I think it’s so powerful that Terry is living his truth like this,” said Chao’s close friend Lillian Richter. “With a full cast of Chinese actors, this movie is an important opportunity for Asian-Americans to feel represented on the big screen.” Richter continued, “I know how excited Terry was for movies like Crazy Rich Asians and to finally feel seen by Hollywood, so it’s inspiring of him to forego all that to stand up against the despicable treatment of Uyghurs the movie implicitly condones.”

“Mmhmm, right,” agreed Terry as he nibbled on his dinner of free bread crusts that the local bakery would have otherwise thrown out. “Conscious choice. Yeah.”

At press time, Chao’s friends later praised him for “his courage in refusing to finance America’s militarized police state.” Chao, when pressed, revealed that he just didn’t have any taxable income, because he had no income.
