January One World‽. Curated gallery of early 20th century postcards. [personal collection] J. Compton, 2021
This curated gallery of early 20th century New Year postcards offers a moment of partial global synchronicity, a postal visual of the start of a new year on the Gregorian calendar, with early 20th century postcards displaying the same date (January 1st) and variations on the same sentiment (Happy New Year!). And yet, it is not a moment of total global chronicity, both to the minute (owing to different time zones) and to the start of a new year (owing to different (non-Gregorian) calendars).
