In May 2016, the FDA created new rules regarding Nutrition Fact labels, which mandated compliance for large food corporations by July 2018. On September 29, 2017, the FDA extended the compliance date to January 2020. The new labels are intended to emphasize calorie content, update serving sizes, and reflect current scientific research regarding ingredients such as “added sugars” and nutrients like Vitamin D and Potassium.
