What We Do
Learning Design and Innovation works with faculty and staff across the College to design programs, courses, assignments and everything in between. We manage Dartmouth’s suite of Educational Technologies, such as Canvas, and provide support and training for the faculty and staff who use them. We work with departments, programs, and individual faculty and staff to create educational media for online programs, residential courses, and more. And we collaborate and make connections across (and beyond) the College to empower exceptional, innovative teaching and learning at Dartmouth.
Academic Programming
Playing a key role in our team’s collaborative work across campus, Academic Programming supports faculty and staff development via programs including New Faculty Orientation and Dartmouth’s Course Design Institute (offered in collaboration with DCAL); support and coordination for MHCDS; support for the Learning Fellows program (in collaboration with DCAL); classroom project support; and consultation with departments, programs, and faculty.

Educational Media Production
The Educational Media team offers Dartmouth faculty a range of services in video production, graphic design, and interactive media. Learn more about their service pathways here.
Educational Technology Platform Management, Consultation, and Training
The educational technologies(edtech) team manages Dartmouth’s learning management system, Canvas, and shares management responsibility for our media platform, Panopto. In addition, the educational technology team provides training and support for a variety of tools including: ED (ed discussion), Zoom LTI, Hypothes.is, Gradescope, VoiceThread, Poll Everywhere, Slack, Team Formation Tool, WordPress Journeys, UDOIT, and Cidilabs. Finally, the team provides consultations in how to use technology to enhance your classroom interactions. The team uses their knowledge of current technologies and their experience with what works best in the Dartmouth environment to suggest appropriate tools to support your class.

Online Courses and Programs (Design & Support)
LDI provides course design and development to new online degree and non-degree programs. This partnership involves collaboration to create course materials, assessments, and audio and visual educational assets that are student-centered, inclusive, and accessible to all learners. Learning Designers will help faculty carefully consider and write their course learning goals, create meaningful assessments and activities, and discuss methods for creating and curating learning materials. Educational Media Producers guide equipment and preparations, provide templates and branding, film, perform post-production, and employ film management to effectively establish film feedback.
LDI also provides support for existing online programs, managing Canvas templates and course sites, developing and delivering technical onboarding for students and faculty, helping to ensure consistency between courses, supporting faculty use of teaching technologies, providing media development support and quality assurance, and ensuring faculty are able to deliver on program expectations.
