Josh works with colleagues across Dartmouth on all aspects of online programs, including market demand, program design, governance, financing, marketing, recruitment, compliance, accreditation, and external partnerships. Please reach out to Josh if your School or organization is interested in exploring opportunities in online/hybrid master’s or online non-degree (certificate) programs. Josh has a Ph.D. in sociology and demography from Brown University. He started his career on the faculty at West Virginia University, helped start Britannica.com’s education division, and was one of the original founders of Quinnipiac University Online. With Eddie Maloney, Josh published Learning Innovation and the Future of Higher Education (2020) and The Low-Density University: 15 Scenarios for Higher Education (2020), both from Johns Hopkins University Press (JHUP). His next co-authored book, Recentering Learning: Complexity, Resilience, and Adaptability in Higher Education (also with JHUP), will be published in 2024. Josh is best known for his Learning Innovation blog on InsideHigherEd.com, which he has written since 2009.
