Leading an Academic Medical Center: Challenges and Opportunities

MONTHLY SEMINAR SERIES

March 24, 2025  | 2:00 – 3:00 PM | Hybrid Event

Join us for an insightful presentation on the challenges and opportunities of running the operations of an academic medical center in today’s environment. The discussion will cover the core tenants of mission, vision and values, provide a macro view of hospital finances across our country, and explore the Dartmouth Health strategic plan and where Dartmouth Hitchcock as an academic medical center fits into this rural healthcare system.

Martin Thomas “Tom” Manion, MPA, was named the Chief Operating Officer of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in April 2024. Prior to that, Manion was the President and CEO of New London Hospital, a member of the Dartmouth Health system. He serves on several nonprofit and association boards in New Hampshire, as well as being a state appointed member of the Legislative Commission on the Interdisciplinary Primary Care Workforce. Prior to joining New London Hospital in 2020, Manion served as vice president of Porter Medical Group at the Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, Vermont.

Manion holds a Master of Public Administration in Health Services Financial Management from New York University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Lawrence University, and a Certificate in Change Leadership from Cornell University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and a General Electric (GE) Fellow of The Health Management Academy.

Manion and his wife, Mary, live in New London, New Hampshire with their four children and their black lab named Judy.
