Over this past year the Dartmouth College Library staff have thought critically and creatively about the Library's future and produced a document we would like to share:
Dartmouth College Library: Strategic Thinking 2015-2020. Our goals are to describe these ideas broadly, provide ongoing updates to specific intentions and plans in the document, and to welcome responses to our overall directions. We are building on our strong commitment to service, and creating more opportunities for collaboration and partnership across campus. As research, teaching, and scholarship change, we continue to evolve. We are always reshaping our services, programs, and expertise to align with research and learning at Dartmouth. Every individual and role in the Library contributes to this effort.
The document articulates the broad scope of our work going forward with some specifics in the near-term. It is not a strategic plan with particular time frames and deliverables. The Library’s annual goal and initiative setting process addresses the latter. There are five areas covered in the document:
• Partnering to create innovative research services
• Supporting excellence in teaching and learning
• Sustaining the scholarly record
• Developing collections at a network level
• Enhancing discoverability of library resources
These topics are not comprehensive, but reflect what we believe are priority themes and activities at Dartmouth.
In developing the document, we have engaged members of Council on the Libraries, the Information Technology Services leadership, the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning, and the Provost. The Dartmouth College Library plays a central role in the intellectual life of Dartmouth. The vision for our future is anchored to a collective vision for Dartmouth. We look ahead.
