Research Summary

Transcriptional Regulation of CFTR Inhibitory Factor (Cif) by CifR. Christopher Penn graduated from North Dakota State University with a M.S. degree in Microbiology in 2009. For the next 2.5 years he worked as a research scientist/technician for Dr. Elizabeth Swisher at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where his work focused primarily on the molecular genetics of ovarian cancer. In July of 2012 he moved to Hanover to work at Dartmouth in the lab of Dean Madden as a lab manager/technician. His research now focuses on a TetR family repressor protein, CifR, which negatively regulates the expression of Cif, a protein which decreases membrane expression of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR).
