Overview

This is an FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printer, meaning it deposits material in a predetermined path to build up layers in order to create 3D objects. FDM falls into the category of material extrusion which is a type of additive manufacturing technology. It uses thermoplastic polymers that come as filament and are pushed through a hot extruder.  Ultimakers have two extruders allowing for auto swapping between two filaments during printing. This can be used to make two colored parts or to have the supports be made from a different material than the object. In order to print it also needs the 3D object in a .stl file format.

Strength: Water soluble supports

Weakness: Prone to print fails
