Opportunities

Are you interested in joining us?

We are looking for people of all sorts!

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Consider writing a senior thesis through Environmental Studies. Interested students should contact me as early as possible. Undergraduates interested in research should consider the WISP Program, Presidential Fellowship, and UGAR for financial support.

Undergraduates can contact Professor Ong if they would like to be added to our listserv and are welcome to join lab meetings and volunteer for research opportunities. We are always looking for dedicated research volunteers. Occasionally, we have specific, short-term funded research opportunities but funding is not always available.  Watch your email for these opportunities.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

The Agroecology lab at Dartmouth College takes PhD students through the Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolution, Environment and Society (EEES). We do not currently take M.S. students, though if you are interested in the Biostatics program, please reach out for potential opportunities. Highly qualified candidates for EEES may be eligible for a McCulloch Fellowship with a stipend of $34,000 and a research budget of $5,000 in year one.  Applications are usually in December and should be submitted using the online application portal. Interested applicants are encouraged to reach out to the PI well before this deadline. We tend to take students who have either or both strong theoretical (mathematical, coding, complex systems modeling, statistics) and agroecology backgrounds with an interest in our study systems: agroforestry and urban agroecology. We also encourage students to secure fellowship funding through opportunities such as NSF GRFP.  If interested, please send 1) a paragraph introduction of your research interests to theresa.w.ong@dartmouth.edu with 2) the Subject Line: EEES Graduate Program PhD Interest, 3) include in your paragraph whether you are interested in fellowship applications and a draft of your fellowship application/deadline, 4) and attach a copy of your CV.

The Ong lab is also initiating the EEES Scholars program to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in academia. Please see our EEES Scholars website or reach out for more information. Share with anyone who might be interested!

POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLARS

EEES has a postdoctoral fellowship, due in early January. Dartmouth also offers positions through the Society of Fellows, application due in early Fall, and the Neukom Institute, application due in late Fall. I am always interested in discussing research ideas and funding opportunities with potential postdocs especially through USDA and NSF programs. Please feel free to reach out if you have an idea for a fellowship application you would like to work on together!

Please e-mail Theresa W. Ong if you are interested in any of the above positions and we can discuss your interests and fit with the lab.
