Parliamentary Debate

Parliamentary debate is a competitive debate style that focuses on logical argumentation and persuasion rather than on research. Debaters improve their rhetorical skills and develop a wide breadth of knowledge.

Teams of two compete against each other. In rounds, you will debate topics chosen by you or by the other team. Topics range from serious to amusing – you can have one round about U.S. sanctions on Uganda and the next round about whether or not Disney movies are antifeminist.

You don’t need to have debated in high school to join! Many of the best debaters had never done anything like debate before college. It’s a great way to hone your public speaking skills and join a community of people who like talking about interesting things.
