Off term database

We plan to compile a list of off term activities of pre-vet students. If you are an alumnus or student, please let us know what you did on your off term(s)!

1. Wildlife Hospital Internship at WILDNorth Wildlife Rescue in Edmonton, AB

Worked with a variety of local wildlife who were either injured or orphaned, and assisted wildlife workers and veterinarians in nursing the animals back to health to be released. The animals included ducklings, hares, foxes, skinks, raptors, owls, porcupines, beavers, and other unique animals! This is an excellent opportunity and really opened my eyes to a new form of Veterinary medicine. -- Jazmyne Ward '22

2. Wildlife Medicine Internship at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center in Scottsdale, AZ https://www.southwestwildlife.org/donate/internships.html

This was an amazing opportunity to work with wildlife directly in a veterinary setting. I spent the term working with and caring for javelina, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, bears, skunks, raccoons, porcupines, tortoises, horses, burros, opossums, and raptors. I highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in conservation or wildlife medicine! --Jordyn Blew, '21

3. Internship with Dr. Tim Ober, United States Equestrian Team Veterinarian with private practices based in Gordonsville, Virginia, and Wellington, Florida

I accompanied Dr. Ober for ten weeks on daily rounds during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington Florida. I assisted with physical exams and treatment, including ultrasounds and radiographs. I was responsible for downloading ultrasounds each night and sending them to Dr. Ober for review, filling out pre-purchase sheets during examination, and tracking and restocking the items dispensed from the veterinarian truck. --Dartmouth '20
