This was the original Dartmouth on Purpose event, a day-long conference organized by Emma Smith ’13 and Dean Lisa Thum and held on May 5, 2013 at the Hanover Inn.
Some of life’s big questions include: What is my purpose? How do I make meaning of my life? These questions will be addressed in a variety of ways, including through keynote and closing speakers; alumni “Stories of Purpose” panels; dialogue with faculty, administrators, and students; mindful workshops such as quigong guided meditation, intentional journaling, and mindful eating; “DOP Talks” (short, TED talk-like presentations) on innovative ways in which we can integrate purpose and meaning into our own lives and into the ways in which we interact and connect with others and our communities.
Our goals for you as a conference attendee are:
- To explore your internal motivations/purpose and to experience a mindful practice during the conference
- To learn how others find purpose in leading and living their lives
- To explore how living purposefully will impact the larger community.
Keynote Speaker: Lodro Rinzler, bestselling author of The Buddha Walks Into a Bar, A Guide to Life for a New Generation and Walk Like a Buddha.
Closing Speakers: Professor Bruce Duthu and Hilde Ojibway
