Postdoctoral Positions Available

Applications are invited for two full-time postdoctoral research positions to work in the group of Professor Chandrasekhar Ramanathan in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Dartmouth College.  We are an experimental research group working at the interface of quantum information science and condensed matter physics.  Our laboratory develops and uses magnetic resonance methods to control and characterize the quantum dynamics of solid-state spin systems.  Publications and recent highlights can be viewed at https://sites.dartmouth.edu/quantum-spin-lab/ .

The broad goals of the two projects involved are:

  • Characterize entanglement dynamics of dipolar-coupled electron spins in diamond (and other materials) using nanoscale magnetic resonance – both electron spin resonance and optically detected magnetic resonance.
  • Develop experimental methods to improve room-temperature dynamic nuclear polarization of spins in and around diamond at high field (3.35 T and 7 T).

A combination of strong experimental and theoretical skills, including expertise in RF and microwave engineering, cryogenics, and quantum control methods is highly desirable, as is the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a closely related field.

Applications should be sent via email to Professor Ramanathan. Please submit the following materials with your application (email: Chandrasekhar.Ramanathan@dartmouth.edu) :

  1. Your curriculum vitae (including full list of publications)
  2. A cover letter describing your interest.
  3. Contact information for at least 3 references who will be willing to provide letters of recommendation.

For full consideration please submit your application by Monday, March 11, 2024.  Applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled.
