Minor in Materials Science Requirements

Joseph J. BelBruno, Director, Nanomaterials Center

Ursula J. Gibson, Associate Director

The minor in Materials Science is sponsored by faculty in Chemistry, Physics and Engineering who share an interest in interdisciplinary education and research in materials science. The program is coordinated through the Center for Nanomaterials Research at Dartmouth. The minor can be readily combined with majors in any of the three departments.

Prerequisites: The necessary background is obtained by completion of Chemistry 5 and 6, and Physics 13 and 14 or equivalent courses.

Requirements: A total of four additional courses are required. These must include Engineering Sciences 24 and Physics 76 or Engineering Sciences 137. Two electives courses are chosen from the following combinations: Engineering Sciences 131 or Physics 73; Engineering Sciences 74; Chemistry 108 or Chemistry 109; Engineering Sciences 73, 132 or Physics 43. (If Engineering Sciences 137 is taken, one of the electives must be from outside the engineering department.)
