Advanced EMI Sensing and Unmanned Aerial System for Subsurface Anomalies Detection and Classification

The main objective of this project  is to develop and demonstrate a fast and robust EMI sensing platform for detection and classification subsurface anomalies at airfields by a) researching, designing and fabricate a new time domain electromagnetic induction sensor with a sufficiently large transmitter coil to be able to detect and locate subsurface UXO to a depth of 2 m; b) adapting the new EMI sensors on an autonomous unmanned aerial system(s) (UAS); and c) developing the current state-of-the-art EMI forward, inverse and signal processing approaches for processing dynamic data sets provided by the UAS in real or near-real time.
