Spatial Archaeometry Research Collaborations (SPARC) is an National Science Foundation-funded program operated jointly by Dartmouth College and the University of Arkansas’s Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies. SPARC connects archaeologists to a suite of advanced geospatial technologies and emerging methods through collaborative research awards, offering direct support for field data collection, analyses of existing geospatial data, or support in the publication and archiving of project data.
- Fieldwork Awards support on-site data collection and analysis for archaeological field projects. SPARC staff collaborate with awardees to plan and implement data collection using equipment and software provided by the program, as well as post-fieldwork consultation and data processing.
- Data & Analytics Awards provide support from SPARC staff in the preparation, processing, and analysis of geospatial datasets. Awards can support, for example, the preparation of aerial and satellite imagery or the creation of a regional GIS in advance of an archaeological survey. Awards can also support advanced processing of data including geophysics, terrestrial scanning, or photogrammetric images, in order to draw out details and subtleties in the dataset or to integrate them with other data.
- Archiving & Publication Awards provide support from SPARC staff in efforts to enhance the visualization of complex geospatial and geophysical datasets, develop novel means for their publication, and find solutions for archiving them.
