What is Embattled’s mission?
The Embattled Program mission is to support and uplift the efforts of students moving forward conversations about sex, consent, gender, sexuality and related topics within their Dartmouth community. At its core, Embattled is a place where students can go for funding and support for whatever event, project, or conversation centering these topics. The Embattled Support Board consists of a team of students dedicated to supporting peers who are doing this work and connecting them with other students, staff and financial resources. How is Embattled structured?
The Embattled Program has three distinct parts each of which contribute to moving conversations on the topics of sex, consent, pleasure, sexual violence, power-based violence, sexuality and/or gender forward on campus.
- The Embattled Fund. Embattled Funding finances undergraduate student projects, events and programming related to sex, consent, pleasure, sexual violence, power-based violence, gender, and/or sexuality. Students who apply DO NOT have to be affiliated with any specific group or recognized by Dartmouth College and can apply to receive funding to cover any costs associated with their event. Students can also apply to be paid hourly for their efforts to put on such events or projects.
- The Embattled Database. Currently, there are many students doing this work on campus, often in ways that are ad hoc and unsupported by the institution. To better support these efforts, Embattled will collect information about previous events (2019 – Current). All student organizers who submit an event or project they initiated will be considered for an honorarium.
- Getting Connected. The students on the Embattled Support Board are dedicated to helping fellow students connect with trusted staff and resources that could further support their project or event. Students who have an idea but would like to talk through it in more detail with a member of the Support Board can attend our zoom office hours on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:00 PM EST or email the Embattled Support Board at Embattled.SPCSA@dartmouth.edu.
All funding request forms and the Embattled database submission forms can be found here.
NOTE: the Embattled Support Board does not meet or consider funding requests during term breaks. If you have any questions please reach out to us at Embattled.SPCSA@dartmouth.edu.
