Hello 25s! Dartmouth TKD is SO EXCITED to meet you all. We will be at the activity fair on Sunday (9/12) from 3-5 PM so stop by and say hello. There will be multiple TKD members and we have our new 21F practice schedule, so it's a great time to come see us! If you can't drop by, check out the ways to contact us or come to the first practice on Saturday, 9/18 (for more details, check out the event in Engage). Can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi everyone!

We have been updating our Fall 2020 practice schedule and adding practices to the calendar, so definitely check those out! Practice schedules for the week will be sent out at the beginning of every week and will feature a mixture of poomsae, kicking/sparring, and conditioning practices with our members, Taekwondo masters, and other schools. Keep an eye out for social events, too! Zoom links and methods of joining class will be delivered in the weekly schedule.

Don't forget to join us for our first practice today from 3:00PM EDT to 4:30PM EDT and/or our team dinner at 5:30PM EDT. Zoom links in the campus-wide email, in the Engage email, and in the GroupMe! Email Dartmouth.tae.kwon.do@dartmouth.edu if you have any trouble joining.

Hope to see everyone this term!

Hi 24s!

We just got notice of another virtual club fair, this time just for club sports. Hosted through Discord, it will be Thursday, September 10 from 4:00-5:00PM EDT. Stop by to chat and ask any questions you may have! We'd love to see you there.

You can also come by the virtual involvement fair, which we mentioned in our last post, on Sunday, September 13, from 2:00-3:00PM EDT. We will be there to answer questions, talk about our plans for this term, and just chat!

Definitely pop in to one of these two events; we can't wait to meet you!

Be on the lookout for more information from the Collis Student Center, who have done a wonderful job organizing this.

Tournaments are for members of all years and experience levels! They are a great experience to showcase what you've learned and accomplished and a wonderful experience for team bonding. If you are feeling a little unsure if tournaments could be for you, check out these testimonials from Kris and Catherine. Both of them went to the MIT tournament in 19F as freshman and white belts!

Kris Moreno, '23, warming up at the MIT Tournament, 19F

Kris Moreno, '23, sparring at the MIT Tournament, 19F

"Taking part in the tournament at MIT was one of the most fun things I got to do with my friends at TKD. It was very rewarding to be able to perform my poomsae in front of judges and have my team cheering me on from the sidelines. Personally, I was incredibly intimidated by sparring but I chose to participate regardless, and I don’t regret it. It was an experience I’m glad to have had, even if I lost. Not to mention it was very fun to get up early and share a nice road trip with the team and share some time together after it was all over!" --Kris Moreno, '23

Catherine Gorman, '23, performing Form 1 for the 19F Belt Test, just as she did in the MIT Tournament, 19F

“The MIT tournament was a great way to bond with the team. It’s super exciting to cheer on our teammates and watch all the hard work everyone puts in at practice pay off! Also we got McDonalds and Chipotle, which (sorry to break any '24s’ hearts) are not available in Hanover.” --Catherine Gorman, '23

Interested in learning more about when and why the club was founded? Check out our interview with Master Whang, who helped found the club all the way back in 1984. Learn about how the Dartmouth Taekwondo club was born out of The Dartmouth Karate club, the only martial arts club on campus at the time. Ever since it's founding, DTKD has been dedicated to building an amazing and welcoming community, just as Master Whang's interview highlights!

Stay tuned for more interviews with club members and alumni.
